The element of surprise is powerful indeed. Often when a reader opens a book, they have a general sense of what to expect. But once in a while, a book comes along that surprises. Wild About Shapes is that kind of book. Visually inventive, this is a book that will delight anyone who opens it up. http://100scopenotes.com/2015/01/19/review-wild-about-shapes-by-jeremie-fischer/

Lucas is the brilliant author behind A Letter for Bear and Lost in the Toy Museum, he is an enthralling storyteller and a superb illustrator. Before the book’s official release we caught up with David to talk a little about his influences, and what this book means to him . The Illustrated Forest review 'Beautiful Birds': If you have seen the cover of this book then you are sure to be drawn in for it is truly magnetic. The text and spine are of a fluorescent orange (more coral than satsuma) and this boisterous colour is omnipresent throughout the book. The book is so varied in colour that this shade is used to tie the illustrations together, and used with great imagination. Sometimes it is only a hint, a duck’s foot or beak, but at times it is a flash of brilliance, a well placed berry to draw the eye, an owl’s eye piercing the night or to decorate the peacock’s plumes until he feels truly opulent. It’s a wonderful visual through-line, and we sought it out on every page as we would a character. http://www.theillustratedforest.com/#!beautiful-birds/ckxn
